How Do You Say Goodbye, I’ll See You Later, To Your Pet?
This is a hard thing to go through.
I’ve taken furkids into the vet to assist them in moving into the next realm.
I’ve had them pass at home.
I’ve had them taken from right in front of my eyes by a careless driver.
Honestly, I don’t know which was hardest to go through because it is never easy saying “Goodbye, for now, I’ll see you later.”
If you have an elderly pet that’s been with you for a long time and you are aware of an illness, this knowledge gives you time to mentally prepare for the inevitable. Also, time to make the last days the best days. You know this day is coming.
The furkids I’ve had pass at home were surrounded by their packmates and humans. It was a quiet, familiar environment, which made them as comfortable as possible until their last breath. This is how it was for my cat that had wandered off after getting into a fight. It returned home after being missing two days, barely alive, and passing three hours later.
The furkids I’ve had to take into the vet for assistance were sick and under the care of the doctor for a while. When they stopped eating and being able to get up to go use the bathroom was the recommendation of the doctor. When the time came, I made the appointment to assist them along the path to the other side.
In the case of the careless driver, my furkid’s death was almost instant. We gathered his little furry body from the street, placing him in a cardboard box, then we brought him home.
These are just 3 examples of saying I’ll see you later I have gone through. I have had furkids my whole life. It doesn’t get easier.
My six dogs are all now five and six years old, and both of my cats are 10. I’m not looking forward to missing them all at the same time. But I’m enjoying each moment with each one right now.
Yes, I’ll probably get a new furkid when that time gets here. Who else am I going to leave my money and houses to? Lol
